Visit ashrams in India where the wife live longer than husband considered guilty

Many visitors to India feel compassionate when behold the indigenous widows that  thin, lank,tiny. They hide in traditional white outfit covered persons, and live quietly in the shabby house in a deserted place.


According to the traditions of the natives, this is the price that must be paid for this woman because they "dared"  live longer her husband. They have to live like that to atone for sin .

Most Hindus in India are convinced that the widows should not live long , because she failed to hold her husband's soul.

Also according to tradition, the widow can not remarry. She would have to hide in the house all day, remove jewelry and wear the color of mourning. Not only become the shame for her family, widows also lose the right to participate in religious activities, the local society. Widows in India completely isolated.

Previously, India also cremation his wife after husband's death. They said that the wife should step up the pyre or suicide, because she had no reason to live in this world anymore. This evil customs was abolished in India.

Many widows are forced to leave home. They often go to two places Varanasi and Vrindavan . Varanasi is considered holy pilgrimage, while Vrindavan is a city from 100 km south of Delhi. Here, they live in ashrams for widows (government or private enterprises and non-profit organizations  build up) until the end of life.
Many people know that, when arrived here means that they have to stick with ashrams to death, and the beautiful day, have fun with your family, loved ones as the ended really. Go to Vrindavan, many people  were completely disoriented. They face the lonely world , without any helping. They live in ashrams everyday, waiting for death in solitude.

"I never thought that one day I will have to beg. But when my husband died and I'm 54, I've been kicked out of the family. I have lived wandering in the streets and a man he kindly helped me buy a train ticket to go to Vrindavan ", Lalita, 72, tell about her life.


"Every morning, we get up at 5am. Some of us come Yamuna riverside to wash their faces and limbs to perform Puja ceremony (morning prayers). Then we return to the ashrams, singing songs praising Lord Krishna ", Gayatri said, a widow living in ashrams Meera Sahbagini built 60 years ago and 220 others.

After the end of the prayer, the women participate on daily work. They cook, alone or in groups 2, 3 and ate in a room or in the hallway of the ashrams. Then they read religious books and prayer. Faith is the only thing that helps them to overcome the difficulties of everyday life.
