The river flows from heaven in Colombia

Cano Cristales River is located inside of the Macarena national reserve  - an  area  3.900km square. Cano Cristales is name that Andres Hurtado adventurers set for this river in 1980, when he discovered first this magical beauty of nature.

It also called "Liquid Rainbow",  water change brilliant color through aquatic plants named Macarenia Clavigera, endemic to the Sierra de la Macarena - a mountain range located in the south of the Bogota capital . At the time of transition between the dry and rainy seasons, macarenia green tree turns bright red, orange, yellow and brown. These colors stand out on the gold background of riverbed sand, moss green, blue water and the dark patches from the rocks gave the river the title as "the river that flows from heaven "or" legendary rainbow river ".

The reason that this unique phenomenon only occurs at the time the season change is due to the rainy season, the river is quite fast flowing and deep, which prevents from macarenia absorb light - a necessary condition for the tree turns red . Cano Cristales River is located in a fairly remote area and almost completely isolated from the outside. Therefore, the river still wild beauty and poetic.

However, visiting to Cano Cristales is not easy. Guests must fly to La Macarena, then to the national park Serrania de la Macarena, from where they have to destination by two ways  walking or horseback riding.
