The village women haircut only once in a lifetime

The Red Dao women in Guilin only cut hair once in lifetime because they believe  long hair brings longevity, wealth and luck.

Red Dao women in Guilin, Guangzhou Autonomous Region, southwest China's traditional festival day long hair into 3/Mar lunar calendar. They have long hair from 1.5 to 2.3 meters and cut only once in a lifetime. In the picture that these women are cooking sticky rice for the festive season tourists last 9/Apr.


A group of women and children in Guangxi, China gathered at the river near the village to celebrate the long hair in the annual holidays. Women regularly book themselves in headscarf. However in the festival, they will drop to shampoo your hair and comb the hair.

 The girls only cut hair only once in a lifetime and usually before they get married.
The Dao also be recorded in the Guinness is the first village with long hair in the world. They believe that long hair will help them live longer, giving longevity, wealth and luck. 



According to the Dao culture, only the  husband and children saw the long hair of women. If a man accidentally see her hair when not wearing headscarves, he would have lived 3 years in her family as adopted children. However, this rigid tradition was abolished in 1987.
