The best farmland is typically a flat field with good irrigation. In fact, some crops like rice require a flat area in order to grow. So what do you do if you live in a hilly area and need a way to grow food for your family or community? Humans came up with an elegant solution thousands of years ago, a solution that has been a primary factor in the growth of great civilizations.

Mu Cang Chai is a rural district (of Yen Bai province), in the northeastern Vietnam. in Mu Cang Chai there are many terraced fields (mainly for rice), creating amazing landscapes which stretch down the mountain sides.Wooden houses and guard boxes can be spotted between the terrace fields.
When travel to Mu Cang Chai you not only the majestic and beautiful terraces, but you can also learn the unique and rustic life of H’mong ethnic group, a poor life but warm-hearted, a rare thing in the modern world. The highlights on Mu Cang Chai trip that you must enjoy: majestic riceterraces as high as 9 storeys of cloud, Tu Le sticky rice, Tu Le hot stream and feeling the unique life of H’Mong ethnic.

Best time to visit Mu Cang Chai
 From February to April, the hills shimmer with dramatic beauty as the rice paddies, filled with water, create a mirror-like effect before turning a dazzling emerald green in May.

Time of grain season usually start from September 15 to October 20, however there’s a bit of change every year. You can also call few hotels at there to ask the rice status, or leave your questions in the comment section, i will find out for you. If you can’t visit on the grain season, you can visit on May to July, when H’mong people start sowing, to sightsee green terraces, very beautiful too. 


You can travel Mu Cang Chai for 2,5 day with motorbike, or 3 day by bus (overnight on bus).
